Award Information | Current Award Recipients
It is with great pleasure that I announce the following Long Reef SLSC members have been selected as recipients of the Long Reef SLSC honour blazer. The blazer making a return to the club after many years of absence.
The Club honour blazer will become one of the clubs most sought after and prestigious awards. This award rewards the recipient for outstanding contributions to the club in a variety of areas as outlined below. In years gone by the club has had a club blazer, which was worn by touring teams. At this time the club lost a part of its history, and a valuable tradition. Traditions are very important in any club or institutional framework and install a sense of pride, value and respect within its members. It is hoped that through the re-introduction of the club honour blazer that club members will value contributions made by those honoured to receive the honour blazer and further they will inspire members in the future to achieve such a prestigious award hence re-creating a Long Reef Tradition.
The award is also a chance to recognise the large contributions made by our Life Members. Each of these members have made huge contributions to the club over a number of years. Their dedication, commitment and loyalty to the club has formed the foundations of what exists today. Their work in various areas has provided the framework setting the corner stones for the clubs current success. The honour blazer recognises each life member's outstanding contributions and is a mark of respect for their service.
The Long Reef SLSC honour blazer, as approved by the 2004/05 Management Committee, will make available and awards honour blazers for the following achievements.
Club level
Each year a club member/s who has performed exceptional and distinguished service on behalf of the club will be awarded an honour blazer (Club member of the year). That member/s will be entitled to a club honour blazer with club crest and letters DS (Distinguished Service) and the year next to the club crest. This award is specifically for extraordinary service. (The blazer being purchased by the club for the award winner)
Life Members
Life Members of the club are honoured by receiving a Long Reef honour blazer. The blazer will display the club crest and may have the words 'Life Member 1999' written in white writing directly underneath the crest. The honour blazer respects the input and commitment of our life members and is as a token of our appreciation for their input, (the blazer being purchased for any new life members).
Competition
Should any club member be selected for a NSW Interstate Team or National Competition Team that member may display this honour on their blazer with the team they were selected in and the year.
Should an individual or member of a team win an Australian Championship either open or Masters that person/team is entitled to wear a gold shadowed Long Reef SLSC coat of arms signifying the Australian Championship. The competitor is also entitled to display the letters 'AC' down the side of the crest to signify 'Australian Championship' and the year on the other side, this writing again being in GOLD text.
Branch level
Any member of Long Reef SLSC who wins either the Sydney Northern Beaches Volunteer of the Year or Surf Life Saver of the Year is entitled to display that award and the year won directly underneath the club logo in white writing. No other Branch awards may be displayed on the club honour blazer. These two awards are the most prestigious branch awards and highly contested each season.
