Special thanks also to 5 Long Reef SLSC club members who officiated for several days at the Australian Championships including: Kristie Thomas, Lachlan Gadd, Mark Nisbet, Doug Lucas and Tom Rees. Without these and other officials it would not be possible to hold such competitions.

Such events always cost substantial amounts of money and Long Reef SLSC thank Winning Appliances who sponsored the Long Reef SLSC Lifesaving team and Long Reef SLSC this season. Without their support the teams overall success would not have been possible.

Sophie Hardcastle

We always knew Sophie Hardcastle was going to be a name to keep our eyes on in women's surfing but already our young star is making headlines. Sophie was lucky enough to spend the day with Layne Beachley after being put forward by her teachers at Stella Maris Catholic College.

Sophie no doubt gave Layne a few pointers on chasing that 8th World Surfing title whilst sitting out the back waiting for that perfect wave. I am also sure that Lindy also enjoyed the day being one of our Branches Surf Competition officials getting the opportunity to chat away.

Fingers crossed this private coaching will see Sophie have another fantastic season both surfing and on the competition board.
We wish her well for season 2007-08.
