Nippers Overview

Welcome to Long Reef Nippers

U8 State Age-220209

Long Reef is a family oriented club with the aim to provide opportunities for juniors 5 – 14 years of age to participate in and enjoy lifesaving and competition in an aquatic environment. We offer a wide variety of activities suited to the skill levels of all juniors.

This season we aim to enhance our weekly activities to develop a range of surf skills and surf education. We encourage attending local carnivals, the Sydney Northern Beaches Branch carnival and the Surf Life Saving NSW carnival. We will again involve our neighbours at Dee Why Surf Club in a friendly interclub day in January, develop the skills of our competitors with board, flags and sprint/relay training and encourage family participation with a parents and children Gala Day and loads of social interaction.

We are an entirely volunteer organisation so many thanks to our much valued club members and volunteers for their support and assistance.  We are always looking for helpers so please don’t hesitate to ask any questions or to volunteer your much needed time and skills and we look forward to another successful season at Longy.

Swim Proficiency for U8's - U14's.

The Under 6’s and Under 7’s are not required to do a proficiency swim. The dates and venue for the proficiency swim and preliminary evaluations are as follows:

 Dates:                  Wednesday 7th, Monday 12th, Tuesday 13th, Wednesday 14thOctober 09

Where:                  Pittwater House School Pool, South Creek Road, Dee Why

Time:                     5.15pm – 6.00pm

Please note Pittwater House School pool charges $3.00 per person swimming.  This charge is payable to the Proficiency Officer or assistant before the swim.

Parents and nippers are to assemble on the grass area beside the pool and not at the ends of the pool, this is to avoid disruption to squads which will be in progress at the same time. The front of the queue will be at the diving block end. Staying in an orderly queue will enable Officials to get nippers through the proficiency swims as efficiently as possible.

LongReef Sunsmart NippersPlease bring your swimming goggles and swimming caps for long hair. Parents please note, that these dates are within the school holidays, therefore, some people may be unable to attend one of these dates. Alternative times for proficiency swims are to be made by arrangement with Bernadette McAlinden on 0403 840 991.

If your child participates in swim squads a letter may be provided from their swim coach to attest to their proficiency. When the child is ‘proficient’ they may compete in Club competition and Surf Carnivals. If you have any questions regarding the preliminary evaluation or proficiency swims, please contact Bernadette McAlinden 0403 840 991.
