Series points
How do the points work?
Competitors are scored using their placing for each particular race. All four race count towards overall points with competitors best 3 results counting. For example if you win a race you will get 1 point so the lowest points at the end of the series will be declared the series winner. This is for all categories.
How does the teams/doubles work on Jan 3?
Competitors can race this day either on a double craft or in a two person team relay. Both methods count towards a final placing, so a double and team actually race each other. The teams will do half the course each swapping at a nominated change-over point. Doubles will do the full course with a portage at the nominated change-over point.
On this particular race points will be even across all three categories. So first double across the line will score 1 point and first team across the line will score one point. For example. Bill Smith and John Smith race doubles and finish first they will score one point. If Bill Jones and John Jones race the team format and finish first they will score one point. If John and Kate do mixed double and are first across the line they will score 1 point and if Paul and Jill decide to do mixed team and finish first in that category they will score one point. You can see how by finding the right partner either on the double or in a team you could move up the rankings.
How does the under 20 double/team work?
For this category only one member of the team/double needs to be under 20. So a under 20 competitor coming 3rd may pair up with a super fast open competitor giving him/her and advantage over their rivals. Both competitors can be under 20.
Examples
Paul is an under 209 competitor. He races in Race 1 (Sep 26) and finishes 5th, Race 2 (Oct 31) he finishes 3rd ,Race 3 (Jan2) finishes 4th ,Race 4 (Jan3) he pairs up with John( is an open competitor) and they are the first across the line in the under 20 category. So Paul over the 4 races has accumulated 5+3+4+1 Points . We drop his worst placing which was a 5th so he end the series with 8 points.
For the last race of the series John picked up 1 point.
From this you can see the benefit of having the right partner for the last event.
